Habakkuk asks why God allows violence and distorted justice. When the answer announces the rise of the Chaldeans, the prophet questions their cruelty too. The book moves through dialogue, a call to await God’s answer, and denunciations of oppressive power. It closes with a prayer that expresses trust even when crops and herds fail.
In Christian Bibles, Habakkuk is one of the twelve Minor Prophets of the Old Testament. In the Jewish Tanakh it belongs to the Nevi’im, the Prophets, as part of the Twelve. See it on the shelf.

Habakkuk 1: the prophet questions Judah's violence and then wrestles with God's use of the more ruthless Babylonian army.

Habakkuk 2: the righteous live by faith while five woes expose arrogant conquest, exploitation, violence, and idolatry.

Habakkuk 3: a majestic vision of divine power turns trembling into joy and trust even when crops fail and livestock disappear.
