Information saved on your device
BibleVerse uses your browser's local storage to remember:
- verses you are learning and have memorized;
- memorization steps and review history;
- your recent reading location and selected passage; and
- your preferred read-aloud speed.
This information is stored in your browser. It is not sent to BibleVerse unless you sign in and choose to keep it in your account (see Accounts below). You can remove it by clearing site data for BibleVerse in your browser. Clearing browser data, changing devices, or using a private window may remove or isolate it.
Accounts
Signing in is optional. An account exists so that what you save can follow you between devices, and so we can email you when you ask us to. To sign in we email you a link and a code; there is no password. If you sign in, BibleVerse stores on its servers:
- your email address, which is how you sign in;
- a name, if you give one;
- your preferred Bible version;
- the verses, favorites, notes and reading place you choose to keep in your account; and
- your newsletter settings, including whether you have confirmed your address.
Signing in sets two cookies: one that keeps you signed in for up to 90 days, and one that carries your display name so pages can show who is signed in. Neither is used for advertising or tracking.
By creating an account you agree to receive occasional email from BibleVerse. Signing in confirms your address. Each kind of email can be turned off on your account page, and every newsletter carries a one-click unsubscribe link. Newsletter emails include standard open and click measurement, counted in aggregate so we can see whether the weekly passage is being read; we do not keep a record of what you individually open or click.
Account data is stored with Cloudflare, which hosts the site, and email is delivered through a third-party email service. Nobody else receives it. You can download everything in your account, or delete the account, from your account page. Deleting signs you out everywhere at once, stops all email, and removes the data within 30 days.
Information we do not request
BibleVerse does not ask about your religion or beliefs, does not run advertising, does not set advertising or tracking cookies, and does not use analytics that identify individual visitors. Do not submit sensitive personal information as a custom verse, reference or note.
Website requests and hosting
Like other websites, ordinary requests for BibleVerse pages and files can include technical information such as an IP address, browser type, requested URL, referring page, and request time. Cloudflare hosts and delivers the site and may process this information to provide, secure, and operate its network under its own privacy terms.
Bible passages and application files are normally loaded from BibleVerse's own site. BibleVerse does not send your saved Verse Book to its hosting provider as application data.
Site analytics
BibleVerse uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views and measure how quickly pages load. It is designed to be privacy-first: it sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, does not record your IP address, and does not fingerprint your browser or follow you across other websites. BibleVerse sees only aggregate figures such as which pages are read, which countries visits come from, what kinds of browsers are used, and how pages perform. Because no identifier is stored on your device, no consent banner is shown. Cloudflare describes how this service handles data in its privacy policy.
BibleVerse also keeps its own count of a few moments, such as a memorization started, a verse learned, a search made, a sign-in or the web app being installed. Each is stored only as a daily total by the kind of page it happened on, the site that sent the visit, and whether the visitor was signed in. No identifier, cookie, address or per-visit record is kept, so these counts can never say who did anything. A browser that sends the Global Privacy Control signal is not counted at all.
Contact form
If you write through the contact page, the name, email address, and message you enter are emailed to BibleVerse so a person can read and reply. The form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from automated senders; Turnstile examines the browser making the request and sets no tracking cookies. The email is sent and delivered by Cloudflare, which already hosts the site, under the same privacy policy. To limit abuse, a short-lived, anonymized record of the sending connection is kept for an hour; the address itself is not stored and is not included in the email. Messages are kept only as long as needed to reply and are never added to a mailing list.
Read-aloud voices
Read-aloud uses the speech-synthesis feature supplied by your browser or operating system. BibleVerse prefers voices installed on your device, but some devices may offer network-based voices. If a network voice is used, the browser, operating-system vendor, or voice provider may process the passage under its own privacy policy. BibleVerse does not control that service. How to install a voice on your device explains which voices each browser uses.
Licensed Bible translations
Three translations, the New International Version, the New Living Translation, and the New American Standard Bible 2020, are provided to BibleVerse by their publishers through API.Bible. Their terms require a count of how often their text is read. When a page shows a chapter from one of these translations, a small script from API.Bible records that the chapter was viewed. It stores a random device identifier in your browser's local storage and a random session identifier for the current visit, and sends those with the chapter reference to API.Bible. It does not receive your name, email address, or anything you type into BibleVerse. No other translation on the site loads it. API.Bible describes what it does with this information in its terms.
Links to other sites
BibleVerse links to translation publishers, research sources, and MARS. Those sites operate independently and their privacy practices apply when you visit them.
Children's privacy
BibleVerse is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly request personal information from children. Parents and guardians should supervise a child's use of external links and browser features.
Changes to this policy
This policy may change as BibleVerse adds features or service providers. The effective date above will be updated when material changes are published.
