James has 5 chapters. Read James in the New American Standard Bible 2020, chapter by chapter, free and without an account.
James urges readers to express faith through what they do. Trials, wisdom, speech, partiality, wealth, and conflict become tests of a life shaped by God’s word. The letter challenges empty claims of faith, warns against exploiting the poor, and commends mercy, humility, patience, prayer, and care for those who wander from the truth.
James is one of the general letters of the New Testament, the same 27 books in every Christian Bible. See it on the shelf.
James 1 connects steadfastness in trials with wisdom, active obedience, disciplined speech, and compassionate care.
James 2 rejects favoritism and teaches that living faith expresses itself through mercy and practical action.
James 3 warns of the tongue’s power and contrasts destructive ambition with gentle, peaceable wisdom.
James 4 confronts rivalry, pride, judgment, and presumptuous planning with repentance and humble dependence on God.
James 5 joins a warning to oppressors with patient endurance, truthful speech, healing prayer, and restoration.
